UMT - 17 ULTRASONIC FLAW DETECTOR WITH USB INTERFACE

The UMT-17 ultrasonic flaw detector is intended for use in
ultrasonic testing of the properties of materials and components in industrial laboratories for non-destructive
testing, as well as the research and didactic labs of colleges, universities and science institutes.
The detector takes the form of a peripheral add-on for a PC and it communicates with the
computer via a USB interface. As a result, it can cooperate with both desktop and laptop computers without the
need to modify their internal structure – as opposed to detectors in the form of internal add-on cards ( e.g. our
company’s UMT-12 ).
The vital feature of the UMT-17, which sets it apart from the other constructions of its type,
is its comprehensive interface system which allows the construction of single- or multi-channel automated-testing stands.
The detector’s interface sockets facilitate the attachment of common industrial propulsion and
control components ( e.g. encoders, proximity sensors, stepper motor drivers, control switches ), external ultrasonic
probe multiplexer and converters of various physical parameters ( e.g. temperature, pressure ).
Owing to the comprehensive interface, the UMT-17 detector can easily replace complicated testing
systems which measure an assortment of environmental variables (e.g. temperature) in addition to performing ultrasonic
analysis; or those systems which require means to steer and locate probe position. In such cases, the UMT-17
fulfils both the role of the ultrasonic flaw detector and that of the assorted peripherals, such as the
multi I/O , motor controllers, enkoders and A/C cards.

The first interface socket of the detector may serve as means to attach devices such as
two stepper motor drivers or standard AC motor inverters, two optical encoders and external control keyboard.
Via the second interface socket it is possible to attach external trigger source, probes multiplexer,
four physical parameter sensors with voltage analog outputs and different industrial control devices with digital output or input.
The software associated with the flaw detector is intended for use in the Windows 2000 / XP operating system,
fully utilising the environment to allow the user to analyse and archive the results of conducted tests, as well as exchange
data with other programs, such as text editors, spreadsheets, mathematical and graphic programs.
For the more complex testing stands, we offer the option to design additional software modules which
provide the integration of the operation of the peripherals with the ultrasonic analysis performed at the stand.
The advanced technical specifications of the flaw detector, coupled with its ability to cooperate
with a wide range of peripheral devices and the comprehensive software package, make the UMT-17 the perfect universal
tool for both non-automated and automated ultrasonic investigation.
